The following is an excerpt from The City of Penetanguishene website ~ "Penetanguishene has a rich heritage of cultures and people. Recognized as having one of the most beautiful and protected harbours, it is a haven for boating enthusiasts. Being within Simcoe County it offers many attractions and events. Many of those large attractions are native to Penetanguishene.

Penetanguishene and Midland are “sister” towns. They are close together and are located on Lake Huron and have a great rivalry. The weekend we visited the area, both were hosting the “Tall Ships 1812 ® Tour”. Our friend, David Brunelle, is the “head” organizer for the area of the tour and that’s part of why we were visiting both Midland and Penetanguishene. We had visited Midland Harbour and viewed the “tall ships” moored there and then travelled on to Penetanguishene Harbour. The scene was amazing! We took the time to get “up close and personal”. We even witnessed two of the ships leaving the Port and sailing off into the Bay. We even saw, from a distance, the ships sails being unfurled and blowing into the wind as they were let down.

At this point it was late ion the afternoon and time for an early supper. As we walked through the harbors parking area we noticed the “World Famous Dock Lunch Restaurant”. It looked interesting, so we decided to eat there. Once our food order was ready, we headed for the outdoor patio. Once there, it “happened”! Disaster struck! It’s too embarrassing to give you the “horrid” details, but let’s just say that my food went “flying” through the air and my pants and shirt now showed the “remnants” of that tasty meal! Sheepishly I re-entered the restaurant and quietly told them what happened. Without “laughing” they asked me if I was okay. I said that I was. At that point the owner of the restaurant was there and said not to worry that she would replace our order! What a fabulous and kind gesture! With that the cook started to re-prepare our meal, and what a great meal it was. Judi and I both had their “famous” hamburgers and they were “great”. Let me give you a word of advise, if you are ever in Penetanguishene, at the docks and you want a great meal, try eating at the “World Famous Dock Lunch Restaurant”. You’ll be glad you did! Tell them that “Mr. Clumsy” sent you!

This is a great area to visit and includes all sorts of interesting things to do and see. Penetanguishene, itself is the home of Discovery Harbour, King Wharf Theatre and the 30000 Island Cruise. The area includes Saint Marie among the Hurons, Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, Huronia Museum and Huron Ouendat Village.

Well, that’s my “up north” story. I hope that you have as much fun and “experiences” when you take “your trip”!
